1 killed, multiple injured in crash involving Iowa Lakes baseball team bus

CALHOUN COUNTY, Iowa -- One person was killed, and multiple others were injured when an Iowa Lakes Community College baseball charter bus rolled in Calhoun County. The Iowa State Patrol said it responded to the single-vehicle crash on Highway 4 near the Twin Lakes area just after 11 a.m. and found an Iowa Lakes Community College charter bus carrying 33 people had gone off the roadway and rolled into the ditch. Sgt. Alex Dinkla with the ISP said that multiple serious injuries were reported. The ISP later said Wednesday afternoon that one person was killed in the crash. No additional information about the number of people injured or the extent of their injuries was released. A spokesperson for UnityPoint Health told WHO 13 that 10 patients from the crash were taken to UnityPoint Health - Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, and two patients were taken to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The ISP said the crash remains under investigation. Iowa Lakes Community College released the following statement about the crash: According to the Iowa Lakes Community College athletics website, the team was scheduled to play against North Arkansas College on Thursday in Harrison, Arkansas. The North Arkansas College President Dr. Rick Massengale released the following statement on Facebook: "Our hearts are heavy as we grieve alongside the Iowa Lakes College community. The loss of a life is a tragedy that reaches far beyond one campus. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual who passed away, and we are lifting up in prayer those who were injured and all who are affected.
