1 killed in high-speed, head-on crash on Indy’s near east side
INDIANAPOLIS -- An investigation is underway after one man was killed in a crash on Indy's near east side Sunday morning. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, just after 2 a.m., officers responded to the first block of North Sherman Drive to investigate a crash. The crash scene was located near East Market and East Washington Streets. Upon arrival in the area, officers learned that two vehicles were involved in a collision — a black Chevrolet Camaro and a white Kia Forte. Preliminary information from the IMPD fatal crash investigation team indicates that the driver of the Camaro was heading north on North Sherman Drive at a high rate of speed when they briefly went airborne while crossing East Washington Street. Once the vehicle landed on the other side of East Washington Street, it veered into the southbound lane of North Sherman Drive and struck the white Kia head-on. The driver of the Kia, a man, was pronounced dead by medical personnel on the scene. The driver of the Camaro, 19-year-old Nitzayeline Dominguez Disney, was subjected to a chemical test after the crash, which is standard protocol for all crashes involving serious bodily injury or death that IMPD investigates. Disney has been arrested on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the decedent following proper next-of-kin notifications.
