1 killed, 3 injured in SF Mission District car crash

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The San Francisco Police Department said an investigation remains ongoing after a suspect was arrested in connection to a vehicle collision just after midnight Monday that killed one person and injured three others in the city's Mission District. The incident marks the ninth pedestrian death in the city this year, according to safe streets advocate Walk San Francisco. Police said officers responded on May 25 at 12:13 a.m. to the area of 16th and Mission streets and located a pedestrian victim being treated by medics for life-threatening injuries. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where they later died. “We hold the victim and their loved ones in our thoughts, and grieve this loss of life on San Francisco’s streets,” said Jodie Medeiros, executive director for Walk SF, in a news release. “We all deserve to be able to get around safely in our city.” Police said they later located the suspect vehicle and detained the driver. It is not yet clear what potential charges they face. "A preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle collided with a pedestrian and struck three additional victims," said police in a statement to KRON4. "The three victims were medically assessed on scene for non-life-threatening injuries." Police said their traffic collision investigations division also responded to the scene and are leading the investigation.
