1 dead, 4 hurt, including juveniles, in northeast Kansas City crash
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- One person died and four others -- including juveniles -- were badly injured after their SUV crashed into a parked car and a tree in northeast Kansas City on Wednesday night, police said. The crash was reported just before 8:15 p.m. Wednesday on East Ninth Street near Cleveland Avenue. According to Kansas City police, a person was speeding east on Ninth Street in a Cadillac Escalade. The SUV missed a curve, went off the road, hit a parked car, kept going and then struck a large tree, police said. The driver was thrown from the Cadillac as a result. Police said the driver was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition as of Wednesday night. A passenger in the front seat had life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital but died shortly after arriving, police said. The victim's name has not been released. Police said three juveniles who were sitting in the back of the SUV were also taken to a hospital. All had serious injuries but are said to be in stable condition. Police said one of the juveniles is a teenager and two are under the age of 10. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
