1 dead, 1 critically injured in wrong-way crash on I-270
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- One person was killed and another critically injured in a wrong-way crash early Thursday on Interstate 270, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Dallas Baldwin said the crash occurred at about 12:47 a.m. on I-270 South, north of Demsey Road in Blendon Township, when a black Audi A3 was traveling southbound and collided head-on with a red Chevrolet Cruze that appeared to be traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their cars, were transported in critical condition to a local Columbus hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at 1:32 a.m., authorities said. The Audi driver remains in critical condition. Authorities has not released the identities of those involved. The crash remains under investigation. All lanes of the freeway were closed for several hours as crews cleared the vehicles, but have since reopened.
