Woman, dog killed in Hamilton County crash
ATLANTA, Ind. — One woman and a dog are dead after a collision on State Road 37 on Sunday. According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department, the crash occurred at approximately 10 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 37 and 266th Street. Investigators believe a Jeep Grand Cherokee failed to yield the right-of-way and turned onto State Road 37, striking a Chevy Impala that was traveling southbound. Both vehicles suffered "catastrophic damage," according to the sheriff's department. Drivers in both vehicles were injured and transported to area hospitals. The passenger in the Impala was also injured and ended up succumbing to her injuries at the hospital. The deceased was identified as 88-year-old Mary West of Frankton. Investigators said a dog, traveling in the Impala, was also killed in the crash. At this time, no arrests have been reported in connection with the crash. The investigation remains active.
