Woman dies in crash on Lankford Hwy in NHC; man charged
NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) -- A Chesapeake woman is dead and two others are hurt following a crash in Northampton County Monday afternoon. According to Virginia State Police, the two-vehicle crash occurred in the 29000 block of Lankford Highway (Route 13) at 4:27 p.m. After investigating, it was revealed a 2009 Honda sedan was travelling southbound on Route 13 when it was unable to avoid a 2007 Volvo tractor trailer. The tractor trailer, which was traveling northbound, was attempting to make a left turn into a business. The collision caused the Honda to get lodged underneath the trailer. The driver of the Honda, 79-year-old Rebecca B. Davis, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional passengers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. 26-year-old James I. Vallar III, the driver of the tractor trailer, has been charged with failing to yield the right of way. The crash remains under investigation.
