Woman dies, 3 children injured after Ohio Turnpike crash in Lorain County
ELYRIA TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a deadly crash on the Ohio Turnpike in Lorain County on Friday. The crash happened around 11:54 a.m. in Elyria Township. According to the highway patrol, a Toyota RAV4 heading eastbound on the Ohio Turnpike went off the right side of the road, hitting a guardrail before overturning. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Najalee Rivera of Lorain, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said she wasn't wearing a seat belt. Three children -- ages 4, 7 and 8 -- were also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. State troopers said they were taken to University Elyria Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The turnpike was shut down for hours after the crash. The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission earlier said eastbound traffic was being diverted at Toll Plaza 145 (Lorain-Elyria) because of an incident.
