Woman charged after abduction, pursuit, crash, Burlington police say

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) -- A woman faces multiple charges after a pursuit and crash on Wednesday while someone was trapped in her vehicle, according to a Burlington Police Department news release. 10:03 p.m., Burlington officials were told to be on the lookout for a vehicle reported to be involved in the abduction of a woman going west on I-40. Initial information indicated the woman had been abducted in Cary and was being threatened with a gun. Around 10:18 p.m., Burlington officers located the vehicle and tried to stop it near Exit 138 on I-40 westbound. The driver, later identified as Jazmin Hayes, 36, of Durham, did not stop, and a pursuit began. The pursuit continued into Guilford County, where Hayes lost control and crashed while trying to exit I-840 at Huffine Mill Road around 0:28 p.m. Hayes then ran away and was apprehended by a BPD K-9 unit. The victim was found safe inside the vehicle. Investigators say Hayes and the victim knew each other. An argument escalated, and Hayes pointed a gun at the victim and law enforcement officials. No shots were fired. Hayes has been charged with: Hayes was transported to the Guilford County Detention Center and is being held without bonddue to the Bond Integrity Act.
