Woman and two children die in crash with logging truck, investigators say
A woman and two children were killed in a crash involving a tractor trailer Monday in Pike County, Ohio, investigators said. Hannah Howard, 30, Gunner Howard, 9, and Peyton Howard, 5, all of Beaver died at the scene of the crash while a 4-year-old child was flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus for life-threatening injuries, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The release said a two-vehicle crash was reported at the intersection of Route 32 and Coal Dock Road in Union Township shortly before 2 p.m. According to investigators, Howard’s SUV failed to yield at the intersection while moving north along Coal Dock Road and was struck by an empty logging truck traveling west along Route 32. The Patrol reported receiving assistance on scene by the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, the Pike County Coroner’s Office, MedFlight, Posts Atomic Plant Emergency Services, Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service, firefighters from Stockdale and Beaver and Gahm’s Wrecker & Crane Service. The crash remains under investigation.
