Woman, 20, killed in early morning crash on I-5 in San Diego
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 20-year-old woman was killed in an early morning crash on Interstate 5 in San Diego Wednesday, authorities said. According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident unfolded around 1:12 a.m. when an 18-year-old female was driving an Infiniti on southbound I-5 near Washington Street. She was accompanied by a 20-year-old female passenger. For reasons unknown, officials said the driver lost control and crashed into the concrete divider wall. The vehicle, disabled by the collision, then came to a stop within traffic lanes. Both women were able to get out of the Infiniti, CHP reported. Following the initial crash, a 52-year-old man driving a Toyota SUV southbound on I-5 collided with the Infiniti and the female passenger. The woman sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released at this time. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation, though CHP officials say drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be factors.
