Witnesses describe the scene of Missouri plane crash: ‘Nothing I could do’
BUTLER, Mo. -- Tragedy is something that no one wants to experience. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened to Bailey Reed and her kids Sunday morning when they saw a skydiving plane fall from the sky, crash into the ground and kill all 12 people on board in Butler, Missouri. "I stopped, and there was nothing I could do," Reed, who witnessed the plane crash, said. "The plane was up in flames, so I just said a prayer that everybody was okay and hoping that there was nobody else on the plane when it happened." Unfortunately, there is no evidence that anyone survived this crash. Sergeant Justin Ewing with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says notifying family that a loved one has died is the worst part of their job. "Because we know that we're having to deliver a message that's going to drastically change someone's life forever," Ewing said. "And so, the most important thing for us is being able to give good, accurate information and give it as fast as possible. We want to notify those family members immediately and so that's what we're attempting to do today." After witnessing Sunday's tragic plane crash, Reed says it's a reminder to never take your life for granted. "You just got to remember to live every day kind of like it's your last," Reed said. "I lost my brother shortly last year unexpectedly, and that's one thing that's been in my mind through this whole situation, is tomorrows never promised, so you hope it doesn't happen, but unfortunately, tragedies do." Sgt. Ewing tells FOX4 that, with the nature of this incident, all of the agencies involved will have to identify the people who died in this crash, and at this time, they will be doing everything they can to help the families affected.
