West Monroe PD investigates fatal vehicle-bicycle crash on North 7th Street

WEST MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) --On June 4, 2026, at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers with the West Monroe Police Department responded to a vehicle crash involving a bicyclist at the intersection of Cypress Street and North 7th Street. The preliminary investigation revealed that Donald Conway, 63, was traveling eastbound on Cypress Street and was crossing the intersection. At the same time, a 2014 GMC pickup truck was traveling northbound on North 7th Street in the outside lane. A witness was stopped at the red traffic signal in the inside northbound lane of North 7th Street. As the GMC approached the intersection, the traffic signal changed from red to green. Mr. Conway was still crossing the intersection and passed in front of the stopped witness vehicle. As he entered the outside northbound lane, the GMC proceeded through the intersection and struck him. Mr. Conway was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the GMC, Carolyn Garrett, 84, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash.
