West Hartford priest dies after crash on Simsbury Road

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A West Hartford priest died Wednesday after crashing on Simsbury Road in West Hartford, according to law enforcement and the spiritual center. Police responded to the single-car crash around 2:45 p.m. in the area of Tumblebrook Road to a report of a car that had struck a tree and had gone into the woods. Terence Kristofak, 85, who was the only person in the car, was extricated and transported to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, police said. Kristofak was pronounced deceased at the hospital. According to the Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center, Kristofak had been on his way back from visiting family when he crashed. "We are filled with grief at the loss of such a kind, loving, and faithful friend," the spiritual center released in a statement. "His presence touched the lives of so many, and his passing is a tremendous loss to our community." Police said Simsbury Road reopened between North Main Street and King Edward Road after police investigated for several hours. Police are still actively investigating this crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the West Hartford Police Department.
