Wesley Chapel family of 7, plus neighbor, hospitalized in golf cart crash: Florida Highway Patrol

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (WFLA) — A family of seven, and their 16-year-old neighbor, were hospitalized with serious injuries on Saturday after their golf cart collided with another vehicle. The Florida Highway Patrol said that at around 6:15 p.m. on March 14, the golf cart and its eight passengers were traveling east on Elam Road in a golf cart lane. At the same time, a Honda Accord, driven by a 17-year-old Wesley Chapel girl, was traveling behind them. As they approached the intersection with Callow Ford Drive, the golf cart made a U-turn into the path of the Honda, FHP said. The two vehicles collided, the force of which ejected all eight passengers from the golf cart. The Honda traveled off the road and nearly went into a nearby pond. FHP said the golf cart was being driven by a 43-year-old Wesley Chapel man, and the passengers included his wife, their five children and their teenage neighbor. All were transported to nearby hospitals with serious injuries. The driver of the Honda and her 17-year-old female passenger were not injured.
