‘We just miss our little boy’: 14-year-old killed in Plant City bicycle crash

PLANT CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a freshman in high school was hit and killed by a pickup truck at the intersection of North Wilder Road and Bryce Ravine Avenue in Plant City Monday evening. Khali Peñón, 14, died Wednesday at the hospital after suffering a traumatic brain injury. "Now I'll never see that smile walk through the door again. Our son gave us so much life. I love him so much," said Frank Peñón, Khali's dad. Peñón was a student at Plant City High School, as well as a member of the Plant City Little League, the Plant City Dolphins football team, and a violinist. He was a brother to six siblings. "My heart is broken. I am absolutely devasted. We just miss our little boy," said Sonia Peñón, Khali's mom. The sheriff's office has not commented on whether or not alcohol or speed was a factor in the crash.
