Water supply employee dies in Olmito work accident: police

OLMITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An investigation is underway after a water supply employee died on Wednesday while performing underground work in Olmito, according to the Brownsville Police Department. Brownsville police identified the employee as 42-year-old Juan Antonio Delgado. The job accident occurred at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the corner of Lomax Road and Cortezville Street. Brownsville police and the Brownsville Fire Department responded to the scene after receiving a call about a water supply employee from Olmito Water Supply, later identified as Delgado, who fell into a sewer drain well. According to police, Delgado was lowered into a drainage well while inside a cage to perform work duties and fell into the water. Police said Delgado fell approximately 10 feet below. Crews with the Brownsville Fire Department removed Delgado from the drainage well, and he was later declared dead at the scene. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, commonly known as OSHA, was contacted, police said. This is an ongoing investigation.
