Washington man dies after head-on crash on Oregon highway

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Rainier man died after being involved in a head-on crash in Columbia County on Friday, officials said. Gary Michael George, 69, died at the scene of a crash on Highway 30 near milepost 34 just before 2 p.m. He was attempting to pass traffic in his gold Nissan Pathfinder when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with another car, the Oregon State Police said. Auburn resident Kulwinder Sing, 36, was the other involved driver, whose loaded white Freightliner commercial vehicle was struck by the Nissan. Singh was reportedly not injured, remained on the scene of the crash and cooperated with investigators. The section of Hwy 30 was closed for about three hours after the crash as the investigation unfolded Friday afternoon. The crash also drew the response of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Columbia City Police Department, Rainier Police Department, Columbia River Fire and Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
