Wamego man dies in Highway 24 crash, Topeka man hospitalized
SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) - State troopers report a local man is dead and another is seriously injured following a Saturday morning crash west of Topeka. Troopers with the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), Shawnee County Sheriff's Office and other emergency personnel responded to a reported two-vehicle crash shortly after 7:50 a.m. on July 4 on Highway 24 where it meets with Countryside Road, according to a KHP crash log. First responders closed the highway in both directions between Landon Road and Menoken Road due to the crash for several hours. The KHP reports that a man inside a 2010 Ford F-150 was traveling west on the highway while a second man in a 2006 Honda Civic was heading east on the highway. The KHP said that, for an unknown reason, the driver of the Ford crossed the center line and hit the Honda. Medical personnel transported the driver of the Ford, a 36-year-old Topeka man, to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to the KHP. The driver of the Honda, 85-year-old Wamego resident Robert L. Kidd, died as a result of the crash. For more local news, click here.
