Virginia man charged in high speed crash that killed Glens Falls woman
BETHLEHEM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Virginia man has been arrested in connection to a three-car fatal crash in the town of Bethlehem. William McAllister III, of Ringgold, Va., was charged with criminally negligent homicide. McAllister surrendered himself to New York State Police. He was then arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court and released under the supervision of Albany County Probation. The 38-year-old is accused of driving over 130 MPH on November 1, 2025 and causing the collision. The crash took place just before 4:45 p.m. near Exit 23 northbound on the Thruway. Police said McAllister was driving in the left lane when he attempted to move to the right lane and sideswiped a pickup truck on the driver's side. He then veered back into the left lane where he rear-ended a sedan. McAllister came to a stop on the right shoulder, and the sedan came to a stop on the left shoulder after striking the guardrail. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as Claudia Hargis-Grover, 63, of Glens Falls. A passenger in her car was taken to Albany Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were also taken to Albany Med for non-life threatening injuries. McAllister was given field sobriety tests and showed no signs of impairment. There was also no presence of alcohol on a preliminary breath test. He was taken to Albany Med for evaluation and charged with multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
