According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash, which led to his death, happened around 12:45 p.m. near mile marker 62 and was reported through an emergency services request from an Apple device via satellite. The authorities noted that Zampella's car inexplicably veered off the road and collided with a concrete barrier, resulting in a fiery crash that claimed his life and that of a passenger who was ejected from the vehicle and passed away at a nearby hospital.
