Vigil planned to honor 14-year-old girl killed in crash in Uwharrie National Forest

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Loved ones of a 14-year-old who died in a car crash in Montgomery County are planning a candlelight vigil to honor her memory. The vigil to honor 14-year-old Kinsley Seay, of High Point, is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sunday at Creekside Park in Archdale. It was organized by Seay's friends. Investigators say Seay was killed in a crash just before 8 p.m. on June 5 on Moccasin Creek Road, a gravel road near Deep Water Trail in Uwharrie National Forest. Another 14-year-old girl was behind the wheel of an SUV. Seay was a passenger in the vehicle, along with her mother Melissa Tonn, Travis Tonn and an 8-year-old. Troopers say Seay was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Melissa and Travis Tonn were allegedly intoxicated. They were arrested at the scene of the crash and charged with three counts of felony child endangerment, along with felony manslaughter and impaired supervision charges. Earlier on the day of the crash, Seay's father, Jeremy Seay, and her grandmother, Wanda Seay, spent time with her. They say they feel “heavy and numb” while holding onto the final memories they have of Kinsley. The final words she left with them were “I love you.” “She pops her head back around the corner and says, 'Love you, Nana. Bye.' And I’ve just got that to carry with me now,” Wanda Seay said. She says that goodbye is now a treasured memory.
