Vigil for 28-Year-Old Southern California Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident
A community gathered at a heartfelt gathering on Sunday evening in remembrance of a 28-year-old man who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident last month. His fiancée bore witness to the fatal crash as she was following him home. Surveillance footage from a nearby residence captured the aftermath of the incident, which occurred when a driver attempted a U-turn in the 5400 block of Monterey Road in Montecito Heights and struck Joey Loulakis. His fiancée, Zaira Regino, immediately pulled over, activated her emergency lights, and rushed to his side. “I held his hand, urged him to focus on me, and declared my love for him,” she recounted to KTLA’s Carlos Saucedo. “In return, Joey expressed his love for me as well.” While authorities are treating the crash as an unfortunate accident, the grieving mother of the 28-year-old, Sandra Loulakis, holds the driver who caused the collision responsible for negligence. Eyewitnesses observed that the driver, who had lapsed registration and lacked insurance, stayed in her vehicle following the incident and did not provide any assistance. Joey's devastated family, including his parents, are struggling to cope with the profound loss. “It feels surreal,” expressed Brandon Loulakis, Joey’s brother, to KTLA. “I keep waiting for him to return home, to receive that call from him asking where I am and what I’m doing. But that call will never come.” A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the family as they seek justice for Joey while also aiming to raise awareness about negligence. “My desire is to prevent other mothers from enduring the pain I am going through due to negligence,” Sandra articulated.
