Videos: See what happened before and after fatal wrong-way crash in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Video surveillance of a Columbus highway shows the moments leading up to and the aftermath of a wrong-way collision that killed a city prosecutor. Kaitlyn Spahr, a senior attorney with the Columbus City Attorney’s Office, was killed late Monday on State Route 315 when the black 2018 Mercedes-Benz she was riding in was struck head-on by what police said was a stolen car. The other vehicle, a white 2018 Mercedes-Benz, was allegedly carjacked by Xiaoke Fan, 30, at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She reportedly used a rock to threaten the driver into getting out of the vehicle. This was after Fan, police said, was picked up by the victim in Clintonville at the intersection of North High Street and East North Broadway, saying she needed help and was taken to the hospital. A criminal complaint said Fan drove the white Mercedes southbound in the northbound lanes of State Route 315 until she struck the black Mercedes. Video obtained from the Ohio Department of Transportation showed the white Mercedes heading north in the far left lane, and cameras caught the post-collision scene in which two cars are severely damaged. Spahr, who had been working as a city prosecutor since 2022, was pronounced dead at 10:51 p.m. The driver of the black Mercedes and Fan were hospitalized in critical condition. Fan is facing charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and aggravated robbery. A court date has yet to be scheduled.
