Video shows wrong-way vehicle seconds before deadly crash

Surveillance footage from a car dealership along Route 1 shows a wrong-way vehicle speeding past seconds before a crash that killed the driver and a young Massachusetts State Police trooper. Video from Kelly Jeep shows the wrong-way vehicle passing the dealership. It appears to be speeding faster than the cars going the right way on the other side of the median.Trooper Kevin Trainor, 30, was traveling home from work along Route 1 when he heard reports about the wrong-way driver. While Trainor was on his way to investigate the incident, his cruiser was struck just after 2 a.m. by a Jeep that was traveling south in a northbound lane near the Saugus/Lynnfield line, state police said. The timestamp on the video says 1:02:50 a.m., but the dealership said the discrepancy is due to Daylight Saving Time. Trainor, who works out of the Danvers barracks, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he was later pronounced dead. The wrong-way driver was identified as Hernan Marrero, 50, of Roslindale, the Essex County District Attorney's Office announced."Make no mistake, Trooper Trainor, today, saved lives this morning. His courage, his commitment to serve the citizens of the Commonwealth, and even be willing to put his life on the line, which he did today, prevented an even greater tragedy, for I am confident that had this tragedy not occurred, there would have been countless other tragedies down the road. He will be remembered as a hero," Massachusetts State Police Col. Geoffrey Noble said.
