OLIVIA, N.C. (WNCN) — A child is dead following a three-vehicle crash in Harnett County Friday afternoon, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said. According to the NCSHP, the crash involved a semi-truck and two SUVs at the intersection of N.C. 87 and Olivia Road around 3:30 p.m. A video captured by a nearby business shows the semi-truck rear-end one of the SUVs, leading to the first SUV crashing into the second. Troopers said a child under the age of 10 sitting in the backseat of the first SUV died in the crash. Another child in the vehicle was airlifted to the hospital. An adult in the first SUV was also injured, according to the NCSHP. According to the NCSHP, four people were inside of the second SUV. They were all taken to the hospital for observation purposes. Troopers said the semi-truck driver, identified as 63-year-old David Allen Cuellar of Indiana, was not injured and remained at the scene. Court records show Cuellar is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed. He was given $5,000 secured bond and is scheduled to make his first appearance in Harnett County court on Aug. 12. The incident remains under investigation.
