Mayor urges patience after deadly plane crash
Laredo's mayor released a statement during the early hours of Wednesday morning after a plane crashed on a local highway a few hours earlier. The crash claimed the life of one person aboard the small aircraft, which was carrying six passengers. It also collided with a vehicle, sending that person to the hospital in stable condition. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones affected by the recent private jet crash," he said. Five officers who entered the aircraft to help those in need were also hospitalized as part of the response. They were treated for smoke inhalation. The mayor thanked all emergency personnel for their response to the incident. "I was at the scene and witnessed firsthand the professionalism, courage and dedication of our first responders," he said. "I want to thank our Police Department, Fire Department, EMS personnel and all emergency responders for their swift actions in suppressing the fire, securing the area and protecting the public. Their bravery and coordinated response under difficult circumstances were truly commendable." Trevino also stressed that residents should allow authorities to investigate and wait for the facts of the case. "As mayor, I understand the importance of allowing NTSB investigators to complete a thorough and objective review before drawing any conclusions," he said. "Aviation investigations take time, and it is important that we avoid speculation while the facts are being gathered. "Until more information is confirmed, our focus should remain on supporting those impacted, honoring those affected and respecting the integrity of the ongoing investigation."
