Victim identified after deadly boat crash on the Savannah River

A 25-year-old Pooler man died and three other people were injured after two boats collided on the Savannah River, authorities said.The crash happened Sunday evening near the Tuckasee-King boat landing in Effingham County, according to Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials. Georgia Game Wardens responded around 5:45 p.m. to reports of a boating incident involving two vessels.Search followed collisionAuthorities said each boat had two people on board — an operator and a passenger. After the collision, emergency crews from multiple agencies responded and launched a search for a person reported missing in the water.That search centered near Stokes Bluff Landing in Hampton County, where crews temporarily closed the landing during the emergency response. It has since reopened.Officials later recovered the missing person from the river. He was identified as William Ligon III, 25, of Pooler.Injuries and investigationThree people were hurt in the crash, officials said. Two were treated at the scene by EMS and released, while the third was taken to a Savannah hospital.The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the DNR Law Enforcement’s Critical Incident Reconstruction Team.
