Vehicle in Lancaster County crashed into a utility pole and tree | Engine block injures child

A speeding vehicle in Lancaster County crashed into a utility pole and tree, sending its engine block into a nearby home and injuring an 11-month-old girl, according to Pennsylvania State Police.The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the first block of Hershey Road in Elizabeth Township, according to a Lancaster County dispatcher. Photos show a car that appears to have struck a tree and then a home. Troopers said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a utility pole and then a tree. During the crash, the engine block became dislodged from the engine compartment and entered a residence through an exterior wall. Inside the home, a toy bin was knocked over and struck an 11-month-old girl in the head, causing what police described as a suspected minor injury. The driver was taken to a hospital for evaluation of injuries. Police did not release additional information about the driver or say whether charges are pending.
