VDOT employee dead, another hurt after fiery crash in Sussex

SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) employee is dead and another is in the hospital after a fiery crash in Sussex County on Wednesday. Just after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, troopers with Virginia State Police (VSP) were called to Route 460 near George Town Road for report of a crash. Investigators determined that a VDOT crash truck was positioned in the right lane when a commercial vehicle crashed into it, per state police. The commercial vehicle then caught fire. Two VDOT employees were hurt in the crash. They were taken to a local hospital, where one of them later died. No additional information, such as the identities of either employee or the current condition of the surviving employee, is available as of the time of reporting.
