According to Virginia State Police, a trooper was attempting to stop a Honda motorcycle on Interstate 264 eastbound near Rosemont Road, around 1:30 a.m., for reckless driving. The motorcycle refused to stop initiating a pursuit. The motorcycle eventually exited I-264 at Lynnhaven Parkway travelling at over 100 miles per hour. At the intersection of Fern Ridge Road and Lynnhaven Parkway, the motorcycle struck an uninvolved VBPD vehicle. The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene A WAVY viewer captured video of the scene showing the VBPD cruiser and motorcycle both with heavy damage. A neighbor tells us he heard a motorcycle and then what sounded like an explosion moments later. He came outside of his home and found the police car and the motorcycle in the roadway. "From my front yard I could hear a motorcycle racing or a car of some sorts, you know, racing, which isn't uncommon. I hear a lot of it often. But seconds later, I heard an explosion, like a loud bang boom," said the neighbor. The VBPD officer was taken to an area hospital to be examined. This crash remains under investigation.
