UTA bus operator loses consciousness, crashes into tree in Clearfield
A bus driver suffered a medical emergency and lost consciousness in Clearfield, causing the vehicle to leave the road and crash into a tree, Utah Transit Authority officials said. The incident occurred near 1500 E. 925 South on Monday afternoon, officials said. No passengers were injured in the crash, officials said. The bus sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene. The driver was taken for a medical evaluation following the crash. One person nearby said she heard a loud thud. At first, she thought it was a fender bender. “Then, we see the fence scattered across the entire road. So, I turn and I look at all the fence that's destroyed, and I turn up and I see the bus in the tree, like fully in the tree,” Jasmyn Ashby said. Ashby said she dropped her phone and went to help a nurse get onto the bus. “I just get up underneath her legs and I just hoist her as much as I can, and then a bunch of other men come rushing in and start hoisting her. We get her in the bus. She's, you know, talking to him, telling him, ‘Hey, let's get up. Are you OK? Are you OK? Can you hear me?’ And then she says, ‘He's coming back. He's coming back.’” ____
