US 85 closed after 1 killed in Brighton crash that caused grass fire
DENVER (KDVR) — One person has died after a vehicle hit a pole and caught fire Wednesday morning, starting a grass fire and closing U.S. 85, according to Brighton police and fire officials. The Brighton Fire Rescue District responded to the area of U.S. 85 and 136th Avenue early Wednesday morning for reports of a grass fire, a spokesperson for the district said. When crews arrived, they found the vehicle had started the fire after it caught fire when it crashed into the pole. The Brighton Police Department said one person died in the crash, and the intersection is closed while it investigates. Police advised drivers to find a detour, potentially using Interstate 76 instead, until the road reopens. Police said the road could be closed for hours Wednesday morning.
