UPDATE: Eula ISD student killed in crash on Hwy 36
CALLAHAN COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A Eula ISD student was killed in a crash on Highway 36 Wednesday night. Eula ISD confirmed the death on social media Thursday morning, releasing a statement that reads in part, ""we are grieving the loss of a student in our district following a tragic car accident. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, classmates, and staff affected by this loss." The student's identity or approximate age has not been publicly released at this time. The crash happened on Highway 36 and FM 603 around 7:30 p.m. Their vehicle was involved in a crash with an 18-wheeler carrying metal pipes, which spilled out onto the roadway. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and two others were transported to the hospital by medical helicopter. Their current conditions are not known at this time, and it's unconfirmed if the student was pronounced dead on scene, or died later from sustained injuries. Community members and public figures are already offering prayers and support for not only Eula ISD, but all of Callahan County, as this accident happened just weeks after a brother and sister from Clyde ISD were killed in a train collision. BigCountryHomepage.com is awaiting additional information from the Texas Department of Public Safety on this crash.
