Tyson Foods worker dies in accident at Washington state plant

PASCO, Wa. (KNWA/KFTA) — A worker at a Tyson Foods plant in Washington state died in an incident last week, according to the company. KNWA's NBC affiliate in Kennewick, Wash., KNDO, reported that Alberto Serrato, 27, "was the victim of an industrial accident" at the Tyson Fresh Meats plant in Pasco on May 15. The Walla Walla County Coroner's Office said Serrato's cause and manner of death were pending as of May 18. Local news outlet Apple Valley News Now said on May 18 that an autopsy was underway, but Serrato was believed to have "died of crushing injuries." KNWA/FOX24 reached out to Tyson Foods for comment on the incident, and a spokesperson provided the following statement: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our team members following an incident at our Pasco facility. Our thoughts are with the family and our team members." The spokesperson also mentioned that Tyson is working with local authorities to investigate what happened, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified. Pasco is located roughly 30 miles from the Washington-Oregon state line.
