Two men from El Cajon die after head-on, rollover crash on Interstate 8
EL CAJON, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The California Highway Patrol confirmed two men died on Thursday after being involved in a head-on, rollover collision that happened on Interstate 8 near Lake Jennings Park Road. According to authorities, the crash happened around 11 a.m. Thursday, when a 24-year-old was reportedly driving a Toyota RAV 4 eastbound on I-8 near Lake Jennings Road. Meanwhile, a 43-year-old was driving a Honda Accord westbound in the same area. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota reportedly veered left toward the center median, eventually crossing into the westbound traffic lanes and crashing head-on into the Honda. The 43-year-old driver of the Honda died at the scene, while the driver of the Toyota was transported to the hospital with major injuries. The 24-year-old driver of the Toyota later died at the hospital, according to authorities. Both men were reportedly from El Cajon. The crash temporarily shut down a stretch of I-8 near Lake Jennings Park Road. All lanes of the freeway have since reopened. CHP says the investigation is ongoing, and that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
