Two dead after plane crash in New Market, fire department responds
NEW MARKET, Tenn. (WATE) — Two people are dead after a plane crash in New Market. The New Market Fire Department said it was on the scene of a small airplane crash off of Burchell Road on Monday afternoon. A spokesman with the department confirmed that two people died in the crash. The department asked people to stay clear of the area in a post from 2:01 p.m. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said that it received a call about the crash around 1:10 p.m. JCSO deputies went to the scene along with a New Market Fire Department crew, the Jefferson County EMS and EMA. The sheriff also confirmed to WATE that the plane took off from Downtown Island Airport in Knoxville. JCSO said they found that a small plane had crashed into a field. Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division are on the scene awaiting investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration, JCSO said. "We are aware of that accident and are gathering information about it," NTSB said.
