Two-car collision near Corry leaves one dead Friday, victim identified

One person is dead after a crash in Erie County on Friday afternoon. It happened near the intersection of Route 89 and East Pleasant Street near Corry. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the crash, which involved two vehicles. The two vehicles, a red sedan and a dark colored SUV, both showed heavy damage at the scene. According to PSP Corry, the driver of the SUV was stopped at the intersection's stop sign heading east on Lovell Road and went through the intersection as the sedan was entering it and struck the sedan. Police said the sedan went off the road, hit a ditch and rolled several times on Route 89, ejecting the driver in the process. The driver, identified as 81-year-old Benjamin Ewiak Jr. of Erie, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Corry Fire Department said Route 89 had shut down from Route 6 to Cherry Hill during the investigation, which remains ongoing. The driver of the SUV was not injured and no charges have been announced at this time as police continue to investigate.
