Two 4-year-old Fresno twins die in fiery crash on way to graduation in Arizona

A Fresno family’s trip to Arizona to celebrate a relative’s college graduation ended in tragedy after a crash in San Bernardino County killed twin 4-year-old girls and left the rest of the family in mourning. The family was traveling on Friday, May 22nd for a family graduation. In the car were Sergio Leon, his brother, Antonio Leon, his wife Hermina Hernandez, and the couple’s twin 4-year-old girls, Nyah and Naomi. “We had family members starting to arrive. As they were arriving, that family- Sergio, Antonio, Naya, Naomi, and Mini never showed up,” Itzia Zamarripa, a family cousin, said. Just after eight in the morning., the California Highway Patrol responded to a crash on eastbound State Route 62 near the city of Freda. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department , the twins were pronounced dead at the scene. Zamarripa said she received a call that it may have been her missing family. “This car so happened to go into, hit the back of the truck as they entered into the lane and ended up perpendicular to my cousin. So my cousins had no time to react at all,” Zamarripa said. “They t-boned that car and immediately burst it into flames.” Zamarripa said three out of the five bodies had been identified so far, but it was confirmed it was her cousin’s car in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing. “We're numb. We're just, it's been devastating,” Zamarripa said. Zamarripa said the twins were set to graduate from preschool this Wednesday, June 3rd. “The outpour of support from everybody has been great,” she said. “So many people have been affected by their, by this loss.” A GoFundMe has been set up for the family.
