Truck driver charged in fatal 9-car crash on I-71 in Columbus

A driver has been charged in connection with massive pileup on I-71 in Columbus that left three people dead.It happened Saturday when the Ohio State Highway Patrol says a semi truck failed to stop as he approached a traffic backup, hitting several vehicles from behind, causing a nine-car crash.Three people died in the crash, they have been identified as a 37-year-old man, 36-year-old woman and one-year-old child from Ashley, Ohio.Three others were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.The highway was shut down for hours while law enforcement investigated.Witnesses called the scene "unbelievable" saying people saw flames "shooting into the air." The semi truck driver, Modou Ngom, 50, from Columbus faces aggravated vehicular homicide charges.He appeared in court Monday where a judge set his bond at $500,000 as well as an order not to drive. More charges are likely, prosecutors said.Another hearing is scheduled for April 21.
