Troopers: 2 hospitalized after wrong-way crash on I-75 in Butler County
Two people are in the hospital with what troopers called life-threatening injuries after a wrong-way crash on northbound I-75 early Friday morning.Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a release troopers from the Hamilton Post were dispatched to I-75 at 2:18 a.m. Friday for a "reckless, potentially impaired, vehicle traveling ... southbound in the northbound lanes."As troopers were responding, OSHP said the driver caused a four-vehicle crash just north of mile marker 18 in West Chester, just past the I-75 and I-275 interchange in Sharonville.A preliminary investigation determined the wrong-way driver hit another car head-on in the left center lane. After the initial contact, the wrong-way driver's car traveled off the left side of the road into the median. The other vehicle rotated around and was hit by a Freightliner traveling in the right lane. Another car then hit debris from the crash that was across the road.WATCH: What we know about the wrong-way crash FridayThe wrong-way driver was extricated from their car and taken to UC West Chester with what troopers called serious, life-threatening injuries. He was later airlifted to UC Medical Center.The driver of the car hit by the wrong-way driver was also extricated from his car and taken to UC West Chester with "serious, life-threatening injuries." He too was airlifted to UC Medical Center for further treatment.Neither the driver of the Freightliner nor the driver who hit the debris was injured.OSHP said all northbound lanes of I-75 were shut down during the investigation, but reopened just before 8 a.m. Friday.Troopers said impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
