Trash truck hits and killed pedestrian walking on I-76

DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado State Patrol is investigating a crash after a truck hit a pedestrian on the roadway early Friday morning. Just after 6 a.m., CSP responded to a crash in the area of Interstate 76 westbound at milepost 6, just east of Interstate 25 and south of Thornton. Based on the preliminary investigation, CSP said a Peterbilt trash truck was heading westbound on I-76 when it hit and killed a pedestrian walking on the interstate. The driver stayed on scene. The crash closed part of the interstate, and the westbound lanes were blocked at milepost 6. Around 10 a.m, traffic appeared to be moving as usual. CSP is asking witnesses who haven't spoken to investigators to contact dispatch at (303) 239-4501 and reference 1D261510. Callers should be prepared to leave contact information for an investigator to contact them later.
