Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announces action taken after fatal Indiana crash
JAY COUNTY, Ind. -- The U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, announced in a social media post that the businesses involved in the employment and education of the semi-truck driver who killed four people in a crash have been held accountable. Friday evening, the social media post detailed how the truck carrier company that employed 30-year-old Bekzhan Beishekeev, as well as the driving school, had been "knocked out of service." Bekzhan Beishekeev, an undocumented immigrant from Kyrgyzstan, was arrested following a crash in rural Jay County that killed four people earlier this month. Beishekeev was initially detained on an unrelated bench warrant, but later was picked up by the Indiana State Police for an immigration warrant. After first being held in the Jay County Jail, he was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and was transported to the Fulton County Jail. According to the Department of Homeland Security's website, Beishekeev has been taken to the Boone County Jail in Kentucky as of Friday. Beishekeev's arrest has garnered national attention due to the severity of the crash and several social media posts made by government leaders. On Tuesday, Senator Jim Banks launched a trucking tip line that would allow drivers to report trucking carriers suspected of breaking federal law.
