Tragic death of traffic responder hit while extinguishing vehicle fire on I-95

A tragic incident occurred on Monday morning on Interstate 95 in Brevard County where a traffic responder lost his life while assisting with a vehicle fire. The responder was struck by a semi-truck as they were working to clear the area near mile marker 228. The northbound lanes remained closed following the accident, with traffic being rerouted at State Road 46. The collision involved a semi-truck and the CMTI traffic response truck which was parked with its hazard lights on. Regrettably, the 63-year-old truck driver failed to move over and collided with the responder, resulting in the tragic loss of life. The driver of the semi-truck was unharmed and remained at the scene, while a passenger from the response truck sustained serious injuries. Another unrelated crash necessitated the closure of all southbound lanes, which have since been reopened.
