Tragic accident claims life of newborn giraffe at Greenville Zoo

The Greenville Zoo recently shared the sad news that their beloved giraffe, Kiko, has passed away due to an unexpected incident at the Toronto Zoo. Kiko, who was the first giraffe born at the Greenville Zoo in 2012, tragically died after becoming caught in a door in a behind-the-scenes area on January 1. The Toronto Zoo is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances of Kiko's accident. Kiko belonged to the endangered Masai giraffe species, of which only around 43,000 remain in the wild. This species was classified as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2018. Kiko's body has been sent for a detailed postmortem examination at the University of Guelph.
