An accident on Tuesday afternoon led to the closure of a section of Highway 92 near the San Mateo Bridge. The California Highway Patrol's Redwood City division was notified at approximately 2:50 p.m. about a collision on the westbound side of Highway 92 near the midpoint of the bridge. It involved a van and a sedan, resulting in a fatality. The victim was in the sedan, while a van passenger was taken to a nearby hospital. The van's driver stayed at the scene and is assisting in the investigation. The cause of the accident has not been disclosed by authorities. Although one lane reopened at 4:14 p.m., other lanes remained shut as per Caltrans District 4. CHP officials aim to fully reopen all westbound lanes by 7 p.m., diverting traffic to Clawiter Road in the meantime.
