TRAFFIC ALERT: Northbound I-215 lanes closed at Foothill Drive due to crash

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Multiple lanes are closed on northbound I-215 at Foothill Drive due to a crash that injured two, including a wrong-way driver. According to the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), there is a crash on Northbound I-215 E at Foothill Drive, near the I-80 interchange. Currently, UDOT is reporting that two of the three lanes are blocked. However, based on traffic cameras in the area, it appears all lanes are closed. Courtesy: Utah Department of Transportation. UDOT says the road is estimated to be cleared by 2:36 a.m., though that is subject to change. Travelers should avoid the area and seek alternate routes, if possible, and should also expect heavy delays. According to Lieutenant Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), there was a wrong way pickup truck driving eastbound on the left shoulder of the westbound lanes on I-80. The driver took the ramp to go to I-215, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, and struck a Toyota passenger car in the left lane. The pickup lane rolled onto its side, while the Toyota ended up on the center median. Roden says that the driver of the pickup, identified only as an adult male, was transported to the hospital in serious condition. The driver of the Toyota, also an adult male, was transported in moderate condition. The I-80 to northbound I-215 on-ramp will be closed for at least another hour while officials conduct their investigation. At this time, they are still working to determine what caused the pickup driver to go the wrong way.
