
Traffic accident shuts down Durham freeway near Fayetteville St at NC-147 North, police report
Durham police are looking into the details surrounding a collision that occurred early Saturday morning on the North Carolina Highway 147, which is also known as the Durham Freeway, in downtown Durham. An advisory from the North Carolina Department of Transportation notified about the incident around 4 a.m., reporting a vehicle crash on NC-147 North close to mile marker 3 near Jackie Robinson Drive. A camera footage from NCDOT indicated a significantly damaged large passenger vehicle, resembling an SUV, by the side of the highway on Saturday morning around 8:30 a.m. Law enforcement officers were observed at the scene, investigating the area. To caution the public, the Durham Police Department used social media to advise avoiding the crash location and to instead choose an alternate route around NC-147 North. By 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, NC-147 North had reopened, as confirmed by NCDOT. CBS 17 has contacted authorities to inquire about potential injuries and the causes of the accident.
