Tractor-trailer crash damages Henrico overpass, causing lengthy closure
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Fredericksburg man is facing charges after state police say his over-height tractor-trailer struck a Henrico County overpass on Monday. The crash took place at 12:52 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9 on Interstate 95 South at the Dumbarton Road overpass, according to Virginia State Police (VSP). Investigators determined that 31-year-old Davon N. Kennedy of Fredericksburg was moving southbound in a 2020 Kenworth T370 when the vehicle's hoist system hit the overpass, causing a piece of said system to break off and fall into the roadway. A 2015 Toyota RAV4 then crashed into that piece. Kennedy had minor injuries as a result of the crash, while the driver of the RAV4 was unhurt. State police said that Kennedy was charged with operating an over-height vehicle and having an expired registration. On Monday afternoon, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) said closures related to the crash were expected to extend into the evening commute and potentially last overnight. This includes westbound Dumbarton Road between Lakeside Avenue and Brook Road, according to the Henrico County Police Division, which is expected to be closed into the "late evening."
