Tire failure causes single-vehicle, fatal crash on I-16
CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — A single-vehicle crash killed a 48-year-old male after he was ejected from the driver's seat on I-16 Tuesday afternoon. The Chatham County Coroner's Office confirmed Thursday afternoon the driver killed was Germin Manuel, 48, who died as a result of blunt force trauma. According to a Georgia State Patrol spokesperson, investigative findings reported that it appeared the left rear tire failed while traveling eastbound in the right lane. The driver reportedly lost control and veered into the shoulder before overturning and entering a ditch with two feet of water. The driver was ejected and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was believed to have been from South Carolina. The spokesperson said two passengers reportedly fled the scene after the crash.
